About KYTHE Kinross

2025 has been one of the busiest years for KYTHE with almost 8000 instances of youth work, and it continues to meet the young people of Kinross-shire where they are.

We welcomed Andy our new Head of Youth Work; as part of the Perth-shire Youth Work Partnership, KYTHE won the National Youth Work award for community-based youth work; our young people achieved an incredible number of nationally recognised qualifications/awards, and there was so much more. In early 2024, Paul joined as Operations Lead to support our increasing work with young people in Kinross-shire, allowing the front-line team to concentrate on delivering youth work. After seven years with KYTHE, but Abbie completed her apprenticeship and became a permanent member of the youth work team. New projects included Crook Youth Club and KYTHE Composes and we celebrated the achievements of the young people with our Awards Ceremony.

Attendance and activity at KYTE continues to be high with young people regularly attending for universal drop-ins on Friday afternoons, and a variety of bespoke group sessions including music, art and cooking throughout the week. 2023 saw our inaugural car boot sale, Easter activities with Mobile KYTHE visiting Abernethy, Bridge of Earn and Oudenarde; and a busy summer with a large group attending Magnitude at Lendrick Muir. We were delighted to welcome Liz as fundraiser to the KYTHE team.

Our work with young people keeps growing.
The COVID 19 pandemic and lockdown adversely affected the young people. They are engaging with KYTHE more and we are seeing more mental health issues.

We have the ability to engage sessional staff and our need for more volunteers increases.

In 2021, we trialled Mobile KYTHE. This was an enormous success, reaching young people in Bridge of Earn, Portmoak, Glenfarg and beyond. Mobile KYTHE will return in Summer 2022.

All our staff and volunteers working with young people are supported by the safeguarding policies of Scripture Union Scotland.

The key to the ongoing success of KYTHE is our staff and volunteers.
In early 2020, Gillian Lindsay joined Barry, as a full-time member of staff. Katy-Beth King joined in 2021.

Barry, Gillian and Katy-Beth have the essential support of volunteers. Some volunteers work with the young people, others supply background support.

When the COVID 19 pandemic struck in March 2020, KYTHE adapted. There could not be face-to-face work. At the start and for many months, contact with the young people was remote. As restrictions eased, we met them outside in new ways.

Barry was employed in 2017. By 2018, KYTHE needed to find its own space with a permanent site.
In 2019 KYTHE secured premises on the Muirs, next to Loch Leven Health Centre and opposite Kinross Community Campus.

The former mobility shop felt clinical and not suited to the young people of Kinross-shire.

In January 2020 Kinross Wooden Products Company Limited and Low and Wyse Limited started work. It was completed in March 2020. The KYTHE Hub had a new layout and a semi-professional kitchen!

KYTHE was founded in 2014 by the four Kinross-shire Churches of Scotland. Local minister Angus Morrison stirred initial excitement and support for a project that became KYTHE. It was inspired by ‘Hope to Oban’, or H2O, a youth charity in Oban.

KYTHE links with Scripture Union and partners with Perth and Kinross Council and Gannochy Trust.
