Cammie’s KYTHE Journey

Apr 29, 2026

Cammie is one of the regular young people at KYTHE and his involvement there has changed over time. Recently Cammie shared his experience of KYTHE with one of the other volunteers to show how much of a positive impact that KYTHE has had on him.

“I’ve been coming to KYTHE for four summers. Friends told me about KYTHE, and I decided to come along, as I’d heard really good things about it,” Cammie explains.

At first, Cammie mainly knew KYTHE as a place to drop in. “I was told that KYTHE did drop-ins and that everyone was really nice. And they had lots of other stuff on offer.”

As time went on, Cammie discovered there was much more to KYTHE than he initially realised. Now, Cammie is involved in several activities and has an active role. “I go to the study group. I do Chill’n’Chat and help run Youth Voice. I volunteer now as well and occasionally go to volunteer at Crook (youth club) as well.”

When asked what the best thing about KYTHE is, Cammie doesn’t hesitate. “Probably the people, because everyone’s so kind, caring. I mean, they care about you and how you are. And everyone looks out for each other.”

Cammie had first heard about KYTHE from a friend, and when asked what he would say to another young person thinking about coming along, his advice is simple and encouraging. “I think you should give it a shot because even if it’s not for you, at least you’ve tried it. But there are lots of people there and you will most likely find someone who you get on with.”

And he highlights how much choice there is, “You can come and you’ll find a group that you enjoy because there’s more groups than I go to. So, lots of things you can do, lots of people you can meet, who will help you enjoy life.”

Reflecting on his four years at KYTHE, Cammie feels the experience has had a real impact on him. “It’s probably made me a better person. I guess I’m more charitable, as I spend a lot of my time volunteering and it’s made me a better person by being aware of other people and how not everyone’s life situation is not the same as mine. So it’s been really positive.”
